Boshidora Dance (flower-stick dance)
Active
Category Name:Furyu (Stick/Staff Dance)
This is a drum dance that has been passed down in the Miyauchi area. It is said that the kagura is based on the Amano Iwato myth which was handed down from Gobe’emon of Taneyama-mura, Yatsushiro-gun in 1755. The dance, with a history of more than 200 years, is a prayer for rain which the sound of drums is said to bring. Adults in the Miyauchi area used to perform the dance, but due to the declining birthrate and aging population the dance was handed down to students of Miyauchi Elementary School. When the school was closed in 2008, students of Kosa Elementary School took over the performance. It is still performed at the athletic meet.
