Category Name:Rites and Festivals (folk belief)
At the Hanegi Hachimangu Grand Autumn Festival, Setto songs are chanted by parishioners and there is a Setto horse procession throughout the town. (‘Setto’ is the name given to the people in charge of the smooth running of the festival). The Setto group enters Shojin-goya on October 26th and conducts Shio-tori on the 27th. After Shio-tori, the Setto pay their respects at the shrine, and set off to parade around the area. On the morning of the 28th, three Setto visit the shrine carrying Gohei (sacred wooden wands decorated with folded paper). The Setto chant Setto songs, and after the Shinto rituals, parade around the town. October 29 is the main festival day, and while Setto visit the shrine, the rest of the company dances to Setto songs sung by Shaku-furi.
