Category Name:Furyu (Furyu Style Dance)
The Hirakuni Roppo Odori is a rare dance in the prefecture in that it tells a story. The origin is unknown, but according to community elders it has a history of some 200 years. Roppo refers to those who defy the powerful and help the weak. It resembles Kabuki in that the dance is performed in a very stylized and exaggerated manner both in dialogue and action. The dance is often performed during celebrations and to pray for rain. It is said that the dance has never failed to bring needed rain. This dance was performed at the 100th anniversary of the Meiji era (1868-1912). It was once discontinued as the performers advanced in age. The dancers revived it, however, saying they wanted children to see it. 《composition》1 singer, 1 drummer, 1 shamisen, 5 samurai(s), and 10 servants
