Kita-Ono Ororonbe
Active
Category Name:Furyu (Furyu Style Dance)
It is a lullaby dance that has been handed down in Kita-Ono for about 300 years, and is said to be an offering for the construction of reservoirs, dredging, and rain-making. It is also said that when the Sankenya Customs Office was opened on the Satsuma Road (now National Highway Route 3) , Ororonbei was offered in the form of a costume parade in conjunction with a sumo display. Until the early Showa period (1926-1989), young men danced in women's costumes, but it ceased to be performed during the Second World War and was never recommenced. In 1968, the Kita-ono Women's Association was asked to perform folk arts at an event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the merger of the former Ogawa Town. In 1975, it was designated as a cultural property of the former Ogawa Town, and since then, the Kita-ono Women's Association has taken the lead in carrying on the tradition.
