This stick fighting technique is said to have been taught to the priests of Aso Shrine by their retainers during the Tensho Period (1573-1592). At that time the priests had abandoned their headquarters "Hama-no-Yakata" and fled to Memaru mountain. This stick fighting tecniique was taught to protect them from the threat of invasion by the Shimazu clan. It consists of three forms: the front, middle, and rear, and is danced to the accompaniment of flutes and drums. It is performed at local festivals such as the Furusato (Hometown) Festival and the Hassaku Festival.
