The Nagano Iwato Kagura consists of 33 scenes from "Kamioroshi-no-Mai" to "Iwato Biraki no Mai". It takes 3 days and 3 nights to perform all 33 scenes. It is performed twice a year, on May 20th and October 27th, during the Nagano Aso Shrine festival. On October 27th, the outdoor kagura "Tenno Shichigosan", commonly known as "Take Nobori-no-Mai," or a Bamboo-Climbing Dance, is an acrobatic-style kagura in which performers climb a bamboo pole more than 10 meters high.
