This is a procession that recreates the “alternate attendance” (Sankin-kōtai) travel of a feudal lord during the Edo Period. The procession of some 170 people through the Seki-machi shopping district includes particpants costumed as lords and princesses chosen from among the public, townspeople dressed as samurai and peasants, and nursery school children wearing matching happi coats.
