Active

Category Name:Furyu (Furyu Dance)

This furyu is a folkloric dance performed in the three districts of Komoya, Nobara and Kawanobori in Arao City and is dedicated at the Nobara Hachimangu Grand Festival, known as "Nobara-san". Two young children beat large and small taiko drums wearing headdresses that look like lion heads. They dance while drumming to the accompaniment of flutes and singing. The dance has its origins in the purging of evil spirits and has been orally passed down. Compostion: In each district, there is one child with a large drum and one child with a small drum and several people playing flutes and singing. Characteristics: This performance is dedicated every year by the three districts of Miyakata (formerly Togo), which do not participate in the Setto events. The fringed headdresses worn by the children are called "Kasakiri" and are remade every year by the people of each district.
