The festival began in 1935 dedicated as a special prayer event in the hope of relieving the depressed mood of the time and revitalising the district. The performance consists of three parts: Tamafuri (children tease the lions with a ball) , Honmai - Main dance (drum dance and lion dance) and Osame. At the very first performance, in the autumn of 1935, the bravery and spirit of the young men struck such a chord with the audience, and it is recorded that the whole village was in awe.
