The Taiko Odori of Minami Ogawa in Ogawa Town is said to have originated in the early Edo period (1603-1868) It is a dance for rain, characterized by dancing with a six ‘shaku’ (182cm) pole to the accompaniment of a long drum (naga-taiko) and flute. Since the formation of the preservation society, the dance has been performed at various places such as rain prayer offerings and village festivals.
