Takamori Aso Shrine Fuchin-sai (Wind Calming Festival ) / Fuchin Daiko (Fuchin Drum)

Active

Category Name:Furyu (Musical Performance)

The festival is held at Takamori Aso Shrine for such Shinto rituals as the Wind Festival. On the 17th, the festival starts at midnight with a "Mezamashi (Wake-Up)" when kane (hand gongs), drums, and shamisen are played throughout the town. This is the signal for each community to start creating objects out of everyday items. In the morning each community displays what they have made and Fuchin Drums go around the communities. On the second day, “Yamabiki” is held in which a procession of portable shrines, a costume parade, and many floats, are pulled around to the accompaniment of shamisen and taiko.
