Tsumori Shrine Ohoshi Festival
Active
Category Name:Rites and Festivals (folk belief)
Tsumori Jingu's "O-Houshi Matsuri" does not have a permanent temple, but is held in a temporary shrine called "O-Kariya" in the area where the deity "O-Houshi" is said to have gone on a shrine tour for one year before being moved to the next area. This is a festival held in 11 districts of Mashiki Town, Nishihara Village and Kikuyo Town around Kumamoto Airport. In the parade, the portable shrine carrying the deity is thrown down to the ground. This kind of festival is very rare not only in Kumamoto Prefecture but also in Japan, so it has been designated as an "Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Kumamoto Prefecture.
