Akanita no Bon Odori (Akanita Bon Dance)

This is a tradition performed at households which are holding their first Bon Festival (the first Bon festival after a member of the family has died) The purpose is to entertain and make offerings to the newly departed spirits. In Namino, the same Bon dance has been handed down from one district to another. There are seven different types of Bon Dance, including 'Mitsubyoshi' and 'Danshichi', which begins with the words 'Gomen kudasa re, kono-ka no teishu ..'. The dance goes on for many minutes, with people waving fans and bamboo sticks, to the accompaniment of the unique "Kudoki"song and music.
