This festival used to be held on the first day of August of the lunar calendar, and is now held on the first Saturday and Sunday of September. The festival begins with a "morning wake up" on Friday night, followed by a prayer for a good harvest at the Koichiryo Shrine on both days. A parade of huge structures made from natural wild plants in each of the shopping streets of Hama-machi also takes place. At the end of the two-day festival, each shopping street holds a "Kitsune-Banashi (Setting the fox free)" closing presentation. The whole shopping district of Hamacho is used as the stage for the festival, which is mainly held by the townspeople, and is said to meant to entertain to the local farmers as a way of showing appreciation for their labors .
