Category Name:Furyu (Mortar Drum Dance)

The Higashi-kata-gumi Drum Dance is one of many Usu-Daiko Odori still preserved in southern Kyushu - especially in Kumamoto and Miyazaki Prefectures. It is called "Usu-Daiko Odori" because the dance is performed while beating a large drum that resembles a mortar (usu). The dancers are divided into two groups and strike the Usu-Daiko and kane (hand gongs) alternately.
