Ikusaga-ura Juugosha Shrine Taiko Odori (Drum Dance)

Category Name:Furyu (Furyu Style Dance)

It is said that this dance was adopted from the drum dance of Sugawara Shrine in Shimoda, Kawara Town in the first year of the Meiji period (1868). Today, six young men playing large drums and three boys playing small drums, all dance repeatedly to the accompaniment of flutes. The body movements are intense, and the dances, such as "Segiri" and "Ushirobachi," are full of spirit and bravery. (Currently, only rituals are performed, not the dance.)
