There is one lion center stage in this performance, with two performers inside manipulating the head and moving the body. One tama-tori doji, who is a young child depicting a priest’s apprentice, also joins the line-up. The musical accompaniment is one taiko drum and one flute. In addition to leading the main procession at the shrine’s annual festival, this lion dance is performed beforehand within the grounds of Kamihachiman-gu Shrine, and again at a temporary structure built for such ceremonies.
