The dance will be performed at the Gofuku-machi Furu-machi Roman Festa. This is an unusual tradition that has been preserved for many generations at the local shrine. Two men with white-painted faces taking the roles of Shinto priests. They appear dressed in Kamishimo with a mortar on their heads. They parade through the streets, serving sake and praying for prosperity and household safety. For the grand "Suribachi (mortar) Dance” the children of Gofuku Elementary school liven things up while wearing mortars they made of cardboard.
