The ceremony is held in the shrine hall on the night of "Kuchi-ake" - the day before the Kasuga Shrine Festival - to pray for a good harvest. At the front of the shrine are two chief priests wearing padded kimono called dotera and aranawa sashes. Bags of rice grains are worn around their waists. On their backs they carry pestles. In front of the priests, two male dancers in traditional women's attire dance to a song sung by "Sangashira" (setto). In the past, the dancers visit the house of each parishioner.
