Miyada Bo Odori (Stick Dance)

Active

Category Name:Furyu (Stick/Staff Dance)

It is said that Ikeda Saikuro, Kaneko Junmatsu's father, who was engaged in fishing in Miyata, brought this stick dance back from Shishi Island, Izumi County in Kagoshima Prefecture in Meiji 17(1884). When the dance was performed at a celebratory party, it quickly became popular among the villagers and quickly spread to the whole village. The village's pole dance group performed at the Shimako-dake Kannon Festival, and their brave and magnificent dance was unexpectedly well received. They raised enough money to build the stone steps of the Miyata Gion Shrine. Their performance brought to mind the "Roppo" with the appearance of calls of "Hayashi" in some parts of their song. This resonated with the local people and lingered in the air for a long time, reminding listeners of the dignity of old samurai.
