Nagae Taiko Drum Dance

Active

Category Name:Furyu (Mortar Drum Dance)

This is a local art form from the Nagae district of Kawabe. Performed in the Edo period, the dance was dedicated to pray for rain. Amamiya Shrine is famous as a shrine to pray for rain and attracts many worshippers. The shrine is also a sacred place for animation fans. (Due to its resemblance to Totoro's forest.) At the annual festival, the "Genpei Usutaiko Dance"commemorating the Genpei War is performed, and the "Amemiya Rain Dance" is performed to pray for rain during the summer dry season. The dance consists of 3 parts "Michiyuki" (On the way), then "Niwa Iri" (Entering the garden) and finally "Kassen" (Battle). In recent years, the dance has been continued as a dedication, but in years when enough dancers cannot be secured, it cannot be performed.
