The procession goes from the shrine to the Okariya (a temporary shrine which serves as a resting place for the 'Mikoshi' - portable shrine) in the morning and returns back to the shrine at noon. The procession is made up of the following parts; Sakibarai (a person to clear the way), Sarutahiko (Shinto deity), Hei (a wooden staff decorated with gold paper decoration ), Sakaki (sprigs of an evergreen tree used in shinto ceremonies), Goshiki no hata (Flags of five colours), Yari (Spears), Hoko (Pikes), Yumi (Bows), Teppo (Firearms), Naginata (halbards), Lion heads (male and female), Otou uchiwa (Otou fans), Tou uchiwa (Tou fans), Hanagasa (hats adorned with flowers), Mikoshi (portable shrines), Rice planters. The rice-planting song is sung from the time the procession leaves the Okariya. It was decided that the rice-planting song would not be practised until the 28th of July, once the Onda Festival at Aso Shrine has taken place.
