This drum dance is said to have been created about 300 years ago by the third chief priest, Fujita-tanba Kashira Fujiwara Genkou, and is dedicated at the Suwa Shrine Festival held in the Shimako district of the town in mid-October every year. In the taiko dance, which imitates kabuki, the silent plays "Kitsune (Fox) Tadanobu" and "Izari Katsugoro" are performed to the accompaniment of flute and drum music.
