Otokonari Girls’ Kagura

Active

Category Name:Kagura

This is a Girl's kagura that is performed at the annual festival of Otokonari Shrine. Otokonari Shrine is so named because the Grand Priest of Aso Shrine performed the crowning ceremony of the eldest son when he was at Iwao Castle. Since then, the ceremony has been performed by the Grand Priestess for generations. This kagura used to be performed by men, but during the war, there were no more adult male dancers, so girls began to perform it, and the kagura took its present form. The dance is called "Urayasu no Mai" and consists of a fan dance and a bell dance, and is presented by four girls in the hall of worship.
