Saiki Hyourou Tsuki Song (Songs for pounding grains/provisions)

Active

Category Name:Production / Livelihood

This is a song sung to the sound of a pestle when refining rice, wheat, millet, etc. Pounding grains was one of the farm jobs from the late Taisho Era (1912~1926) to the early Showa Era (1926~1989). At that time, the process of making white rice from brown rice was hard manual labor, and this song was sung repeatedly to ease the long hours of hard work. Due to the lack of those supporting its continuance, the last performance was at the town's cultural festival in November 2005. The performance has been saved on CD.
