This bo-odori (stick dance) said to have originated by villagers of the Heike clan who had settled in the slope of Toyo Town teaching martial arts. It evolved to a hanabo dance which pays condolences to the deceased. Though the Sakayori branch of Kawamata Elementary School, which had been the focul point of local activities was closed in 2010, the bo-odori was handed down to students of Toyo Junior High School, and recently, there has been exchange activities with Itsuki Village, who were handed down the bo-odori by peple from Sakayorikami district in the Taisho era.
