Sanjin-gu Shishi-mai (Lion Dance)

Active

Category Name:Lion Dance, Tiger Dance and Cow Dance (Tiger Dance)

The lion dance takes place to exorcise evil spirits before the Shinto parade at the Sanjingu Festival. After WWII, there was a shortage of manpower and even more so a shortage of young men to perform the lion dance, so it ceased. However, in 1978, a group of 40-year-old graduates of Hikawa Junior High School, who were born in 1939, decided to perform the lion dance at the Sanjingu Festival by themselves. The lion dance is performed at the Sanjingu Festival and the New Year Festival.
