Sanjingu Children’s Kagura

Category Name:Rites and Festivals (folk belief)

The children's Kagura was started in 1932, by a group of parishioners with the support of the head of the parish. The origin of Kagura is said to be the "Ama-no-Iwato myth", where people welcomed the gods by dancing. There are several types of Kagura dance. Children's Kagura is a form of Higo Kagura (a simple dance consisting of 12 troupes led by a Shinto priest). Children's Kagura is performed at the festivals of the three shrines, Toshidamatsuri, Natsukoshi Matsuri and Autumn Grand Festival. It is also performed at the request of neighbouring shrines."
