Suya Kagura

Active

Category Name:Kagura

It is said that Suya Kagura was first dedicated to Suya Shrine in 1915 or 1916 when the shrine parishioners received training from the kagura dancers of the Ooike district and performed it at the annual festival that the same year. Due to WWII and other factors, it was discontinued, but in 1974 it was reintroduced and is performed today. This kagura belongs to the Higo Kagura family common throughout the northern part of the prefecture. It is performed three times a year (on New Year's Day, at the spring festival on the last day of February, and at the autumn festival on November 15).
