Active

Category Name:Kagura

This dance is performed at the summer and autumn festivals of Takbata Toshine Shrine. It is said to have been handed down from Higashi-usuki-gun, Miyazaki Prefecture. This kagura is one of the Iwato Kagura, characterized by its six tones and fast tempo. The music consists of a big drum, a small drum, a flute, and a bell signalling the beginning of the festival. Kagura songs are sung to the accompaniment of bells, and the dance is performed using ornamental bells, fans, "gohei", swords, bows, and sticks. There are 33 performances by 11 troupes. Yodo Kagura was suspended for about 30 years due to a decrease in the number of dancers, but was resumed in 2014.
