It is not known when the Sagara 33 Kannon was established, but it is believed that the belief in Kannon spread among the common people in the mid-Edo period. Each of the 35 temples in the Hitoyoshi Kuma area enshrines the Kannon, which is believed to be benevolent in its own right. Even today, they are protected by the local residents, and are opened at the same time in spring and fall during the equinoctial weekends
