Tobase Island has no major rivers and has long been plagued by droughts, so the islanders have a strong desire for water which has caused the rain-making event to grow in popularity. When the villagers ordered a large drum, the eighth generation head priest of Reishoji Temple, Mitsuryoshi, also carved two demon masks and gave them to the villagers. The villagers danced and danced every summer. Especially in years when there was no rain, fishing boats from all over the island lined up on the Wakamiya coast. Drummers, dancers, flute-players, bell-ringers, and rowed around the island to the beat of ‘don-don, kan-kan, pee-hyala-ho. Program: Michigake, Hayagake, and Funagake Participants : 20 to 30 drum pullers , 3 drummers, 5 flute players, 2 bell ringers , 20 dancers
