Tsubahara Amagoi Taiko Odori (Rain Drum Dance)

Active

Category Name:Furyu (Furyu Style Dance)

The Sanaburi Festival is held once every three years at the Tsubahara Hachimangu Shrine, with the dedication of a large drum performance, to pray for rain. The festival used to be held every year but because of the lack of successors ( to participate? organize ?) it has been held once every three years since the late 1960’s. The women dance to the rhythm of taiko drums with flutes and gongs, to the tunes of “ Amagoi” and “ Neneko”. Due to typhoons and the Kumamoto earthquakes , the festival was cancelled twice and in July 2019 , the drum performance was dedicated for the first time in seven years. However, the Taiko and Neneko dances were not performed.
