This dance is said to be descended from the martial arts dance from the Sendai region of Oshu. It was a very intense and heroic dance of flying and jumping, with the eldest son of the district serving as the dancer. It was dedicated at village festivals, obon festivals, memorial services, and prayers for rain. It is composed of 5 singers, 12 dancers (gongs, drums, and sticks), 2 Saotome, 2 drummers, 1 banner bearer, and 6 Kouken (guardians).
