The origin of Toramai (Tiger Dance) was to collect funds for the relocation of the shrine. Later, the dance was performed as a petition for rain. The dance is noted for the humorous way in which the tiger is awakened by the movement of "tsuruko" (baby monkeys) around the tiger, accompanied by fast-paced drums, gongs, and flutes.
