Usu-Daiko Dance (Nanachi) in the Kuma region

Category Name:Furyu (Mortar Drum Dance)

This dance was passed down to the young men of the village, and in the past, there was a strict unwritten rule that only the eldest son could pass it on . The fact that the songs are close to Japanese hymns suggests that the dance is certainly from the Great Buddha . It is believed to be extremely old. The dance is usually performed by 10 dancers, although the correct number of dancers is 18. The dancers consist of one head dancer with a large drum, two Seki dancers with drums, five Waki dancers, five bell dancers, four singers, and a few caretakers. All dancers wear the same costume, tabi (socks), sandals, and hand armor, and a buffalo horn-tailed helmet; Seki wear a hoe-shaped helmet, Waki wear a deer horn helmet, and the bell dancer wears shaguma.
