Category Name:Rites and Festivals (folk belief)

This procession of costumed children singing along to the sounds of drums and other instruments has been held since 1732. Called "Torimono", the festival originated when the parishioners of Wakamiya Shrine formed a procession to retrieve the shrine after it was swept to Kashima by a flood of the Mifune River. Currently, the festival is held in conjunction with the Wakamiya Shrine autumn festival.
