Category Name:Kagura

Yoshiwara Iwato Kagura is said to have been received from the Bungo Province around 1804 to 1848, but the exact period is unknown. Tradition holds that it was brought to Yoshiwara at a time when people were suffering from famine and starvation, gambling and vice were rampant, and people were unsettled and desperate. It was reestablished around 1872 with the guidance of Kagura masters and mask carvers. On September 20, at the annual festival of Yoshiwara Shrine, the kagura is performed in the shrine hall, illuminated by a bonfire. There are 33 scenes from the beginning of Gohoreishi to Daijin.
