Shinme (Sacred Horse) of Myoken-gu Shrine Festival Shito Procession

Active

Category Name:Rites and Festivals (folk belief)

The sacred horse of the procession of the shrine god has been that of the Yatsushiro Castle lord for generations since Matsui Naoyuki, Yatsushiro Castle lord in the first year of Jokyo (1684), decided to make a perpetual donation of the horse along with the stable, grooms, and feed. From an unknown date in the Edo period to the Meiji and Taisho eras, Tanaka Village (Tanaka Town), within the Myoken shrine district, was in charge of the dedication of Shinme. Currently, at the time of the shime-osame held on December 1, the next year's sacred horse offerer is chosen by lottery from among those who wish.
