Sanbaso

Category Name:Narrative / Blessing

Sanbaso began when it was danced in celebration of the accession to the throne of Emperor Taisho in 1915. The creator of the Sanbaso, Okamura, Kiyo, was born in 1875 in Koraimon, Ura-machi, Kumamoto City. In 1902, she married into the Okamura family in Hataura, Misumi Town, where she taught this Sanbaso dance to the villagers at the time of the Emperor Taisho's coronation celebrations. Since then the dance has been passed down through the generations. It is danced at town celebrations and local shrine festivals. Recently it has been performed at festivals such as the 100th anniversary of the Misumi Higashi Elementary School where it was the first dance in the program of show.
